इंग्लंडचा दिग्गज क्रिकेटपटू अॅलिस्टर कूकने आंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेटमधून निवृत्ती घेण्याचा निर्णय घेतला आहे. तो सध्या सुरु असलेल्या इंग्लंड विरुद्ध भारत संघातील कसोटी मालिकेनंतर निवृत्त होणार आहे.
म्हणजेच 7 सप्टेंबरपासून सुरु होणारा इंग्लंड विरुद्ध भारत यांच्यातील पाचवा कसोटी सामना हा कूकचा शेवटचा आंतरराष्ट्रीय सामना असणार आहे.
त्याच्या या निवृत्तीनंतर क्रिकेटमधील अनेक आजी-माजी क्रिकेटपटूंनी आपल्या भावना व्यक्त केल्या आहेत. यासाठी अनेकांनी #thankyouchef असा हॅशटॅग वापरुन कूकला पुढील वाटचालीसाठी शुभेच्छा दिल्या आहेत.

कूकने 1-5 मार्च 2006 दरम्यान नागपूर येथे झालेल्या भारताविरुद्धच्या कसोटी सामन्यातून आंतरराष्ट्रीय पदार्पण केले होते. तो इंग्लंडचा कसोटीत सर्वाधिक धावा करणारा फलंदाज आहे.
त्याने 160 कसोटी सामन्यात 44.88 च्या सरासरीने 12,254 धावा केल्या आहेत. यात त्याने 32 शतके आणि 56 अर्धशतके केली आहेत. तसेच तो 158 सलग कसोटी सामने ही खेळला आहे. त्यामुळे सर्वाधिक सलग कसोटी सामने खेळण्याचा विक्रमही त्याच्या नावावर आहे.
